Congratulations to Ms. Jennifer Benjamin, nominated by 6th grader Ainsley McCubbin, for being selected as this month’s TTC Person of Influence! Ms. Benjamin is a choir teacher at Heritage Middle School.

Ainsley nominated Ms. Benjamin because “she has encouraged me to go to the next level in my singing and confidence. She’s influenced me to try my best even if what she has planned is hard. She has so much faith in us and shows this by being so positive and creating a happy environment in the classroom.”

Ms. Benjamin began teaching as a volunteer for the Jesuit Volunteer Corps at an alternative middle school in Newark, NJ. While the experience had some challenges, Ms. Benjamin came away from it inspired to touch lives through teaching and do what she can to make a difference. She has been teaching music to students ever since!

Ms. Benjamin has a wonderful husband who is a Professor of Trumpet at the UMKC Conservatory of Music and who regularly plays with the KC Symphony. Together, they have three sons: Duncan, 11, Rowan, 5, and Cameron, who passed away at 7. In her free time, Ms. Benjamin enjoys swimming laps, hiking, doing yoga, and watching her sons do gymnastics, baseball, soccer, Taekwondo, piano, and Kindermusik.

Thank you, Ms. Benjamin, for all you do to enrich the lives of our children!
